KELZEN - The Beginnings

As I launched the website a few weeks ago a lot of people were very surprised. It took (and still takes) some time to understand what’s my purpose.

But before I start to explain I will spend a few words about the very beginnings. Years ago while studying Management at the ‘Fachhochschule Vienna’, I addressed my Master’s Degree on the subject ‘Working Climate – Factors and Indicators’. I did my studies avocational. That means I worked through daytime in a HR department in a company in Vienna, Austria and in the evening I studied with other employed people the theory.

The topics employee satisfactions, working climate and working conditions have always been my passion. But this time the internet wasn’t as popular as today – e.g. Google didn't even exist.

Years later I stumbled across a hotel-rating-website. At the beginning I couldn’t do anything with it. But over the months I checked from time to time before I booked a hotel. Today no hotel will be booked without visiting such a website before.

One day it suddenly dawned on me and I had the idea to combine both ideas (working conditions and online-check). I checked the internet but didn’t find much. Then I knew I have to do something…

Because I have been living in Malaysia together with my husband, who is working as an expat here, and with our two kids since beginning of last year I’m having the time not only to think about it but also to realize something. Anyway – the kids are number one.

Last fall I found a very customer oriented and flexible web-company and the people there gave me great support to realize the idea (thanks to Kervin)

On March 1st, 2007 the baby was born and now I’m going to raise the website.

Who should rate his employer?

I am thinking about several groups that could take part in submitting reviews:

  1. THE DISGRUNTLED

You will probably think about this group first.
Here I see those employees who are dissatisfied with oneself and their job and only want to vent their frustration.

Remark: I try to check every review and want to remark that reviews where all criteria set to 1 without giving any explanations will not be released because they are of no help to others.

  2. THE DISSATISFIED

These people typically write a detailed review with particular descriptions of the reasons for their dissatisfaction. Such reviews are ok and most welcome.

  3. THE CRITICAL

These employees are basically satisfied but do have some critical issues which are described in detail. Such reviews are of a great help to others!

  4. THE SELFISH

These people don’t want to share their opinion with others.
    Remark: Has to be accepted.

  5. THE SATISFIED

This is the (in my opinion largest) group where everything is ok and where is no need for changes.
Remark: This group is therefore hardest to motivate to submit a review. If you are one of them I would be especially pleased about your review ;-)

  6. THE DISTRUSTFUL

These people, who are not really sure what happens to their reviews. Is everything really anonymous? Should I expect consequences about my (probably negative) review?
Remark: Here I only can let time work for me and a lot of other reviews to build up trust which may lead to participation.

  7. THE STRESSED OUT

These employees have a lot on their plate and don’t have time for it ‘at the moment’. But soon they will have time … Will see!

  8. THE ENTHUSIASTIC

These people who have a lot of fun at their job and are very proud of their company. They like to share their happiness with others and are glad to write a detailed review.

I would appreciate if you write a comment below to remark on groups I didn’t cover!
